Hi everyone,

My name's Jake Canull. I'm 20 years old. I'm a Junior at The King's College in New York City studying Business Management. Among other things, music is a love of mine - writing it, performing it, and recording it - I love it all.

I'm from Dutchess County in "Upstate" New York... It's not that far upstate but if you're not from the city and you say that you're from NY, then you're either from "Long Island" or "Upstate"...
Anyway, at 18 years old I moved to NYC to pursue a degree in Business from an amazingly rigorous school (The King's College) and also to see what fun I could have with music.

In the Fall of 2013 I recorded and released my first 7-song EP that made it onto iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, and 20 other online stores. In the Spring of 2014 I was playing shows all over the city and managed to catch the attention of some management companies. By summer of 2014, I was playing 2-3 shows a week, getting in studios all over the city, pulling all nighters at some of those studios, making some really solid connections in the industry, releasing a single, working with some amazing producers, and compiling more original music than I knew what to do with.

But like anyone else, I made mistakes, I let some people down, and wasn't always happy with some of the decisions I had made. I decided the only thing I could do was take responsibility, step up, and grow up. I wanted to start aiming to be a good man. A real man.

Music and manliness are two things that are very important to me. They were the first two things that came to mind when I was instructed and inspired to come up with a blog topic I'd be passionate about. So please, join me on this song-writing journey of figuring out what it means to be a real man in business, music, and life in general.
